back >> Tlos & Saklikent (full day excursion) Saklikent, one of the largest gorges in Europe Market

Tlos is situated about 28 kms from Fethiye and is one of the oldest residential areas of Lycia. It is also know as the “sport centre” of the Lycian Federation and was the home of the mythological winged horse, Pegasus and his hero Bellorophonte. You will have the chance to scramble around the ruins of the ancient Roman Amphitheatre and tombs in the mountain side.

Leaving Tlos and on the way to Saklikent, you will visit a Trout Farm at Yakapark. Here, you will have the chance to eat freshly BBQ’d trout and sit amongst the cool mountain streams out of the heat of the summer sun.

A short ride away is Saklikent, one of the longest and most dramatic gorges in Europe. The gorge itself stretches some 18km but is only accessible by foot for a few kilometres. At the Gorge be prepared to get wet as you begin by walking waist deep in the torrent of icy water (you can hire their shoes if you don’t have any). Scramble over the huge boulders and look upwards to observe the amazing rock formations caused by thousands of years of water erosion.

Having explored the gorge, there are some lovely restaurants by the water’s edge where you can relax and enjoy freshly made pancakes and a cool drink. For the more adventurous there is the opportunity to go rafting down the rapids in a dinghy.

On the return journey, you may get the chance to visit a traditional Turkish Carpet factory where you can watch locals practice traditional methods of hand weaving the carpets. Bargains can be had here, and they will even make all the arrangements to have the carpet of your dreams posted back home.

Holiday Representatives can show you what is available and all can be booked directly in resort.
